This is the original Morpheus rig that appeared in the artcle "A Successful Failure" in CQ December 2003, DEMI 10GHz transverter, 18-inch DSS dish, horn feed, no contacts.
This is a side view of Morpheus, showing the elevation feature and the steering handles. The right handle includes a PTT trigger, so as soon as the received signal is peaked, KH6WZ can blast away.
Operator's view of Morpheus III. From left to right: The small blue and grey box houses a DC filter to supply the JWM Engineering Model 1152 PLL. Immediately below is the DEMI transverter. Along the back wall is the 11W SSPA on a large heatsink, along with its power relay and LED indicator. Alligator clips are used to turn the fan on upon demand, so far the amplifier runs cool to the touch. An SMA T/R relay resides near the dish feed. A DEMI LNA (W5LUA design PHEMPT <1dB NF) is plugged into the transverter. The right wall holds a 12V to 24V DC-DC converter to drive the relays, and an N6CA T/R Time Delay Generator. An FT-817 is the IF radio, and below that is an old TimeWave DSP unit, not connected in this image.
Somewhere in the back there is a 12V lamp, very useful at night.
