The 2 July 1998 meeting tech talk will beDoug, K6JEY on Rubidium frequency standards. The SBMS meets at the American Legion Hall 1024 Main Street (south of the 91 freeway) in Corona, CA at 1930 hours local time on the first Thursday each month.

Last meeting- George, K6MBL talked on the construction and operation of magnetons. George had a nice historical handout which covered the design and operation of the tube and some of the different versions of the device. thanks, George for the education. Visitors were Bob, K6ITU of Woodland Hills and Mel Swanberg, WA6JBD of Riverside. Welcome. Dave, K6OW indicated that he had sent an SBMS response to the FCC RM9267 attempted grab of 440 Mhz frequencies by the LMCC. ARRL had filed a good response also. If RM9267 advances to the next stage, then ALL amateurs will need to write the FCC in protest, or we will be setting president to lose all the bands. George, K6GMV brought in an original copy of the W6VIX 1956 polarplexer write up for the Society files. The 10,368.300 Mhz N6CA Palos Verde beacon will be moving to Mt Sabtiago before the August 10 Ghz contest. Need to keep this in mind when making frequency checks during the contest. The ARRL SW Division convention will be that same time as the 10 Ghz contest. SBMS has been asked to provide a tech talk during the microwave sessions. Hopefully they will allow the talks to be scheduled early to where the microwavers can make the contest too. Dave, K6OW and Joe, WA6PAZ have volunteered to speak. It was proposed that 25 July be a test day for those building gunnplexer rigs (and anyothers) to gather maybe in Fairview Park in Costa Mesa. This would be also a picnic and testing operation for both SBMS and the San Diego Microwave Group. Another shift in recording secretary was made at the meeting and Dick, K6HIJ volunteered to take over that in addition to his current job as treasurer. 26 people present.
