Here are some of the activities we currently have planned. If you have already registered for MUD, you can contact us to reserve your place for these excursions. As space is limited for the activities requiring travel, those who register early will have the best opportunity to secure their place.
Take a trip down to historic Hollywood, California. You will have the chance to see the Walk of Fame, Graumans Chinese Theatre, the new Hollywood and Highland shopping center (where the Kodak Theatre home of the Oscar's is located), the Hollywood Sign and much more. Depending upon time and interest, we will also either be visiting the Original Farmer's Market and the Grove shopping center or taking a driving tour through the Hollywood hills to see the homes of the stars. This will be a predominately self-paced and self-guided tour, however, we will be meeting for lunch at Hooter's Restaurant (Sorry guys, this trip is just for the YL's, but maybe if you are good we will bring you something back.)
Visit beautiful Santa Monica. A trip to Third Street Promenade in Downtown Santa Monica allows you to see all that California is famous for in one place. Sun, sand, celebrities (this is a favorite haunt for most of the Hollywood crowd -- you never know what or who you might meet), shopping and entertainment are all here. Third street is an open air shopping district that has a major shopping mall at one end and hundred's of small and large shops lining its path. You are just 2 short blocks from the beach and about 3 blocks from the Santa Monica Pier (If you have watched television anytime between 1950 and today you have seen the pier). With book stores, movie theatres and best of all wonderful street entertainers that perform all along the street, Third Street has something to please everyone. Again, this will be a predominately self-paced and self-guided tour. We will again meet as a group for lunch, but the restaurant has yet to be selected.
Ontario Mills Outlet Mall. If you are into good shopping deals, than this is the place for you. Ontario Mills is an indoor outlet mall that has outlets from some of the best stores around the country. Nordstrom, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bed, Bath and Beyond, Mikasa, and JC Penny's are just a few of the hundreds of stores large and small that you will find here. With a food court and restaurants aplenty, including a Rainforest Cafe and a Wolfgang Puck's, Ontario Mills is a great place to go when you want to get the most for your money.
Local shopping mall. If you are interested in staying closer to home (or closer to the hotel) then we will have information available on how to get to the closest shopping mall. If there is enough interest to warrant it, we will try to arrange for someone to drive a group here for a day of shopping.
A boat ride around Long Beach Harbor. If this excursion interest's you, please contact us A.S.A.P. as a reservation will need to be procured and additional payment for your ticket will be needed in advance. We don't have a lot of information about cost or itinerary as of yet, and depending upon interest, this excursion may or may not occur.
We also have morning coffee klatches planned for Friday from 7:45 to 8:45 and Saturday from 7:45 to 8:45. These will be informal meet and greets where you can get information about local sights, connect with old friends and meet new ones. All are encouraged to attend even if you will not be accompanying us on an excursion that day.
Again, if you are already registered, good for you! Pat yourselves on the back with one hand and send us an email with the other hand at YLactivities2005@aol.com letting us know which activities you would like to be a part of.
We have lots of other surprises planned but we need to know how many folks will be attending to put some of these ideas into motion. Have a great day!
